Amarillo Lands Wind Turbine Manufacturer
26-Jan-2010
The Amarillo EDC announced earlier this month that it will provide financial support for the development of a wind component manufacturing facility in the CenterPort Business Park. Alstom is an excellent choice as a partner for this project. Alstom is a large power and transportation company with over $30 billion in annual revenues and over 80,000 employees worldwide. The company has international experience in power generation and has been active in the wind market since 2007. It has a strong presence in North America and a commitment to providing clean power solutions.

Alstom Power Inc will construct a turbine/nacelle manufacturing facility on a 19+ acre site that houses an existing Amarillo EDC owned building in the CenterPort Business Park. The new project has the potential to create attractive green manufacturing jobs in Amarillo and will also help meet the growing demand for clean, renewable wind energy in Texas and across North America.

Amarillo’s location in the central US provides significant logistical advantages and is an excellent location for this facility. Additionally, the Amarillo EDC has invested in the infrastructure needed to transport the sizeable equipment involved in wind power projects to potential sites all across North America. Amarillo has a strong local work force and has dedicated resources to train and retrain our workers to compete in the “green economy.”

The project is still in the initial stages of development. The Amarillo EDC and Alstom will provide additional details on the facility and the types of jobs and economic development benefits that it is helping to create as the project moves forward.
