Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas is the only statewide not-for-profit health insurer in Texas with three million members and over 5,500 employees. In 2003 the company announced plans to establish a new customer care center in Amarillo and began construction in 2006 on a new state-of-the-art 80,000 square foot facility. The new facility is located in the Point West Business Park and expected to be completed in late 2007. Blue Cross Blue Shield is headquartered in Richardson, TX and is a division of Health Care Service Corp headquartered in Chicago, IL.
The Amarillo EDC provided an initial $2,000,000 incentive grant to be used for acquiring an 11-acre site and pay for architectural and engineering expenses. An additional $3,175,000 incentive grant is to be paid when the company has achieved its full employment level of 500 fulltime employees.
