Headsets Inc. incorporated in 1994 with back orders of 200 for their initial product. They had just finished exhibiting at the Experimental Aircraft Association air show and discovered increasing interest for their product. That product was an active noise cancelling system which could be installed into existing David Clark style headsets (90% of headsets then in use) and provide active noise cancelling comparable to the $1,000 Bose headset, and superior in performance. Headsets, Inc. currently employs about 12-14 persons, most full time. Headsets Inc. has expanded into working with government buyers/contractors to assemble a headset per their specs with very little lead time. This has been very successful, and they are currently working with companies such as Boeing and Lockheed Martin to provide headsets to meet their specifications, with very little lead time and at a very low cost.
In 2001, Headsets, Inc was awarded the Amarillo Enterprize Challenge which allowed the company to make expenditures for capital items such as leasehold improvements and tools/equipment, which allowed for more efficient assembly process. Currently, sales have grown at about 20% per year since inception. The target market has evolved from the individual pilot who wants to upgrade his favorite/trusty David Clark headset, to OEM & military sales. OEM customers are headset manufacturers that were in need of an active noise reduction system to compete in the market, but had none.
