How Does the AEDC Invest in Amarillo’s Future?
By supporting local students through hands-on career training and expanded educational opportunities, the Amarillo Economic Development Corporation (AEDC) is laying the foundation for a more resilient economy and a stronger, more diverse local workforce.
Investing in Tomorrow’s Talent Today
Workforce development in Amarillo is not only a long-term goal, but a present-day priority. That’s why the AEDC, in partnership with the Panhandle Regional Planning Commission (PRPC), is investing $300,000 in workforce training assistance for five regional school districts.
This funding directly supports Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs at Amarillo ISD’s AmTech Career Academy, along with Bushland, Canyon, Highland Park, and River Road ISDs. Our goal is to equip local students with the real-world tools, training, and pathways they need to contribute meaningfully to Amarillo’s industries.
Why Workforce Development Matters in Amarillo
A skilled, future-ready workforce is the backbone of economic growth. As Amarillo continues to attract new business and diversify its economy, it needs qualified workers across a range of high-demand sectors. That’s where CTE programs come in.
From robotics and welding to graphic design and nursing, these programs provide students with technical skills, certifications, and hands-on experience that align with regional industry needs. They also offer clearer pathways into good-paying, local careers, whether through post-secondary education, apprenticeships, or direct employment.
Strong workforce development ensures that Amarillo builds the talent of our own community.
How the AEDC Helps Expand Career and Technical Education
The recent $300,000 grant is a targeted investment that focuses on expanding equipment and resources across participating school districts. These resources will be used to strengthen CTE programs in:
- Construction
- Graphic Design
- Machining
- Nursing
- Robotics
- Welding
By upgrading lab equipment, modernizing classrooms, and expanding program capacity, AEDC and PRPC are ensuring that students have access to the same tools and technologies they’ll encounter in the real workforce.
This effort complements other AEDC initiatives focused on talent development, industry partnerships, and career readiness, creating a seamless bridge between Amarillo’s classrooms and career pipelines.
What This Means for Amarillo’s Future
This investment reflects a larger vision for Amarillo community development, one that centers on opportunity, education, and economic diversification.
When students graduate with career-aligned skills, local industries benefit from a more capable, hire-ready workforce. That makes Amarillo even more attractive to manufacturers, healthcare providers, logistics firms, and other growing sectors in need of talent.
In short: Career and technical education in Amarillo helps employers find skilled labor, helps students secure meaningful careers, and helps the entire region grow.
